Discovered Links

How Valorune surfaces related notes automatically based on meaning.

Discovered links are notes that Valorune finds to be related to what you’re working on. They appear in the Backlinks panel with a sparkle icon, separate from the manual wiki-links you created yourself.

These aren’t keyword matches. Valorune analyzes the meaning of your notes and finds conceptual connections. Two notes about different subjects that share an underlying idea will surface as related, even if they don’t share any words in common.

How they work

  1. Write notes about things you’re thinking about
  2. Index your notes (click “Index All” in the sidebar)
  3. Open the Backlinks panel on any note

After indexing, discovered links appear automatically. The more notes you have indexed, the more connections Valorune can find.

If a discovered link is a good connection, you can promote it to a wiki-link with one click. This converts the suggestion into an explicit, permanent link between the two notes.

If it’s not relevant, ignore it. Discovered links are suggestions, not assertions. They won’t clutter your notes or insert themselves into your text.

What if it gets things wrong?

It will sometimes. A discovered link might surface a note that’s tangentially related but not useful. That’s fine. The sparkle icon tells you this is a suggestion, not something you created. Your manual wiki-links always take priority.

Over time, as you add more notes and make more manual links, the discovered connections get more relevant. Your wiki-links help refine what the system considers meaningful.

In Settings > AI, you can adjust two controls:

  • Discovered Links Threshold: minimum similarity score for showing related notes. Lower means more suggestions, higher means only highly similar notes.
  • Discovered Links Limit: maximum number of related notes to show per note (1-10, default 5).

If the Backlinks panel feels noisy, raise the threshold or lower the limit. If you want more suggestions, do the opposite.

The workflow in practice

The typical pattern: write freely without worrying about connections. Index periodically. Check the Backlinks panel when you want to see what’s related. Promote the good discoveries. Ignore the rest.

The in-app Backlinks tour walks through this when you first open the panel.
